Instead of attending regular school, Nyjah was taught at home along with his four siblings. From a very young age, his father encouraged him to skateboard and insisted that he practice every day, starting from the age of five. However, Nyjah later admitted that his father was quite controlling. When Nyjah’s parents bought an indoor skatepark, he became even more devoted to skateboarding, spending most of his time honing his skills. At that time, he was already sponsored by the skateboard company Element. However, his sponsorship deals came to an end unexpectedly when his father decided to move the entire family to Puerto Rico. Eventually, Nyjah’s mother divorced his father and won custody over Nyjah, allowing him to move back to California to resume his skateboarding career
